In every organization, there are two types of managers. The ones who sees management as a status that they can use to control people. And the ones who use their position to improve everyone’s performance. Empowering your team will get you a lot farther a lot quicker. 

There’s only so much you can get done by yourself at some point you have to expand. When you do it’s important to find quality people. The type of people you can boss around are not the kind that will get you very far. They will come to work just to get paid and will have no problem just taking long coffee breaks to pass the time.

Empowered team members will come up with ideas that will take you to the next level. Not to mention they will work their asses off just because they care.

How do you empower your team?

Start by listening to them, pay attention to their ideas even if they don’t make sense. You’re talking to another person with a different perspective it’s crazy to not take advantage of that. Don’t assume that you know better assumption is the mother of all fuck ups.

Give them more responsibility when you delegate your tasks to other people is becomes their project. Now you get the opportunity to find out if they sink or swim.

Most importantly don’t be too hard on them. When a person does something wrong he knows it, get in the habit of congratulating them when they did something right. People keep tabs on you, when you give them a bad experience too often they hold it aginst you. Better to stay on their good side.
