New customers versus used customers

We all try to get new customers, growing our business is something we should always focus on. But never at the expense of our loyal customers. I’ve seen way too many businesses give better deals to new customers and discard their loyal followers.

The reason you’re loyal customers are so important

Finding each customer requires spending a lot of money. Whether we’re talking about advertising, a sales team etc. When you already have the client all you have to do is give good service. The better service you give him the more likely he is to stay.

Many new businesses, and sadly some of the old ones take those clients for granted. They think that They’re always going to be with them no matter what. So they allow themselves to put those clients aside and focus only on the new ones.

This process is as useless as constructing the building I’m quicksand. You lose just as much as you earn if not more. So far what I’ve seen, is companies dividing into a sales team and a retention team. Hoping to keep bringing new clients without losing the old ones. And while that is a good idea, your clients are not stupid.

They refer friends, family and work colleagues to you. And know exactly what you’re offering them. You see the problem, is not that your retention team isn’t doing their part. The problem is clients receiving worst deals than their friends and family.

What can you do about it?

Make sure loyal clients receive deals that are not only equal but surpass the deals you give your new clients. Show them that you care, show them they’re important. Not just with your words but with your wallet. Do this, and your business will grow far faster than you can ever imagine.

Another tip I can offer, keep in touch with all your customers. Send them a postcard on their birthday. Not an email but a real postcard, handwritten. People today don’t expect to be more than a number on your spreadsheet. Show them they mean more and you will have a personal connection with them. A connection they will not break easily.

I hope you found this post helpful, if so like it and share it with your friends. And while you’re at it, check out my ebook ‘level up your business’ a guide to starting your own business the right way.
