I met two friends in a coffee shop last night and we got to talking about how much money you need to make a living and how to get it. They are both employees and never tried the self-employed lifestyle. Even worse they are not open to understanding it. It took me a few minutes to understand that they see a black and white picture and don’t mind the colors. By that, I mean that they think that you either make a lot of money as a self-employed (from the start) or it’s not working out and you should go back to being employed. What they don’t seem to get is that from the first cent you proved that the business is working from now on it’s up to you.
Nothing is done in a day, you have to give your business some time to grow. But when you get clients to pay you it’s a working business. Now it’s up to you to get more paying clients.
People are always going to try to break you down
They are not bad people they are just ignorant. They never took the time to learn how a business works and they got so used to an employee’s lifestyle they can’t stop and think about growing a business from nothing.
Even new business owners expect to have riches after just a few months. Gary Vee gets questions from new entrepreneurs all the time and one questions he got was from a new business owner. In it, he asks about how to deal with the burnout after just four months into his business. I love Gary’s answer, he told him that after four months he’s not even out of the bed. A business takes years to build.
Life is not given to you on a silver platter if you want something you have to work for it. And sadly family and friends won’t understand what you’re doing till you make more money than them. You have to develop thick skin and keep taking their criticism. But if you’re patient it’s going to be worth it.
